Challenge Wales Race Guide

Challenge Wales is a spectacular middle-distance triathlon located in Pembrokeshire. Boasting closed roads and an incredible triathlon festival feel, it isn't one to be missed. The course is set in a beautiful part of the country; North Pembrokeshire. Fishguard is packed full of history, athletes will run across Fishguard Bay which formed the defence line on the last invasion of Britain in 1797! Challenge Wales featured one of the largest pro fields in the UK in 2022. From start line to finish line; this is an epic race experience.

We have teamed up with Sea Trust Wales – A Pembrokeshire based marine wildlife conversation charity. For each athlete that enters, money from their entry will be donated to this charity to help educate and raise awareness for caring for Pembrokeshire’s marine wildlife.

The Course

The closed roads middle distance triathlon kickstarts with a two-lap sheltered swim in Fishguard Bay, followed by a fast out and back cycle towards St. David's. Athletes will finish the triathlon with a flat run across Fishguard Bay's breakwater, surrounded with incredible views of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. It is an excellent challenge for athletes within multi-sports events.

 

Challenge Wales First-timers Tips

• Get all of your kit and equipment organised prior to the event.
• Start to fuel your body with the right food the week before
• Don’t try new products or methods on the day of the event – stick with fuelling products and sporting practices that you know and are comfortable with.
• Bananas are a great pre-race snack, but be careful you don’t overload before the swim for your own safety.
• Get to know the event rules in plenty of time. These are to ensure the safety and fairness of all athletes.
• Take full advantage of resources – read up before the event and attend any first timer or pre-race briefings that have been organised.
